This article is more or less a stub, so there's a lot of development to do here. I've redone the Infobox in the upper right-hand corner, following the same format as many other cities (see Richmond, Virginia, Norfolk, Virginia, and Louisville, Kentucky as examples. One thing that should be added to the Infobox is a picture of the city flag, if someone can find that.

As the two major cities in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, I think Norfolk and Virginia Beach should stand out and have the most information overall. They're almost like the twin cities of Minnesota, although they're not called that. But there is a lot of overlap in infrastructure, culture, climate, etc. So we need to consider carefully the quality of these two cities first, before we get into many of the other cities of Hampton Roads. But ultimately, all cities should overall agree with each other in format, style, and accuracy.

Religion - Incorrect data?

I see a problem in the section "Demographics" and in the subsection "Religion". The specified source provides different information than the section in the article. The article states, for example, that 28% of the population would be Catholics. The source stated that 10.7% of the population are Catholics.[1] It would be very nice if someone could check. --Ora Unu (talk) 18:43, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

English is not my native language and I am rarely active on the English Wikipedia. That's why I thought it would be better for people who write articles in this subject area to do so. The only thing I noticed is that the information about the denominations is very strange for the situation in Virginia. The result of the move request was: not moved. Proposed move is clearly in violation of WP:USPLACE. WP:RMCI is very clear that proposals that do not align with guidelines need to be closed as "not moved" regardless of the number of supporters, absent a very good reason to WP:IAR. Oppose The AP stylebook lists 30 cities that don't need the state alongside, and Virginia Beach isn't one of them. Unless WP:USPLACE is changed, this article should stay. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 22:00, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

• Support, we've done it elsewhere. New York City, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta, even internationally with Toronto, London, Auckland. It's no different here. There isn't any other city, nationwide, called "Virginia Beach" per GNIS. I will concede that there are two beaches called Virginia Beach, one in Miami-Dade and one in Nevada (though this one is due to it's location near the historic Virginia City, Nevada).   I don't need that headache. But if USPLACE is so "overarching" and LOCALCONSENSUS backs it up, then all of the pages I mentioned above (US only) should be renamed accordingly.   USPLACE uses the AP stylebook as its guideline, and that manual allows for 30 cities – including the (American) ones you mentioned – to be listed sans state name. It might be also noted that, among the 30 U.S. cities listed by the AP, only 28 appear in English Wikipedia as main title header city-only primary topics. The remaining two — Phoenix and Washington — are headers of disambiguation pages. Also, contrary to what the nom seems to suggest, we absolutely cannot assume that the presence of a state in a US place's name indicates the state that it's actually in. Virginia City, for example, is nowhere near Virginia. Year Established

I see that the article says that the City of Virginia Beach was established in 1906. That was when it was an incorporated town, not an independent city. These are two different things. I would like to change the year it was established to either 1952, when it became the modern city, or 1963, when it merged with Princess Anne County. I feel that the opening is misleading too vague. I just wanted to ask permission to make this edit, so I won't get yelled at and have my edit reverted. Thanks! Erin (SSBelfastFanatic) (talk) 15:35, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

It says both very clearly. The lead correctly states that "modern VA Beach" was established in 1906, while the history and infobox share more details. It should not be changed IMO. glman (talk) 16:37, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Doesn't modern imply the most recent date? I feel like 1952 would fit best, with something like: "While Virginia Beach was first designated a town in 1906, it became the modern independent city in 1952." Just an idea. Erin (SSBelfastFanatic) (talk) 17:00, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
